Things to Do in Barbados

I touched down in Barbados for the first time in April 2009. Prior to my visit, the vision I had of this Caribbean island nation was that of a celebrity hideaway. A place where the international jet set goes to vacation, in private villas and in exclusive five-star resorts – far, far away from the public eye.

I expected sky-high prices everywhere and the typical roster of Caribbean offerings – gorgeous beaches, a few upscale restaurants and perhaps nature activities such as a rain forest hike.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a vibrant local flavor and a wealth of cultural activities, neither on my list of expectations. Here are some pointers to guide you around Barbados away from the beaches and the resorts.

Fish, rum & pepperpot

To experience Bajan-style entertainment, the place to go is Oistins Fish Market on a Friday night. While this weekly event has admittedly become a tourist-packed affair in recent years, it’s nevertheless an island must. Both locals and visitors pack the colorful stalls to chow down on delicious Bajan treats like fried flying-fish sandwiches, cou-cou (a cornmeal and okra dish) and macaroni with cheese. This is the prime spot to wander around with a bottle of Banks beer, listen to live music and maybe even boogie the night away.

Rum shop on Barbados

A rum shop on Barbados

A tour of a few rum shops is another experience not to miss in Barbados. These colorful little shacks – there are over 1,600 on the island – are ideal for a little rum tasting and a game of dominoes. You’ll definitely get more of an insight into the life of locals.

On my trip back in April, I spent a Friday night hanging out at Merten’s rum shop in the village of Half Moon Fort. The center of attention was John, a charming fisherman born and raised in the area who regaled us with stories and stories that could have easily gone into the next day. Across the road, St Elmo’s grocery and its adjacent karaoke bar had some very enthusiastic singers hogging the mic.

One of my favorite meals in Barbados was a lunch at Fisherman’s Pub in Speightstown. The island’s second largest town is so amazingly low-key and quiet that it feels more like a large seaside village. The restaurant, an unassuming spot on the jetty, features lovely water vistas and inexpensive Bajan mainstays such as pepperpot (a spicy meat stew) and jug-jug (a mix of corn and green peas) plus West Indian classics like chicken curry, rice & beans and plantains.

Rumors of art, cinema & après-plage

In Speightstown, I heard rumors of a gallery soon to open up. It was a while in the making but The Old Pharmacy Gallery just opened to the public this December. Housed on the ground floor of a lovely old landmark building that epitomizes traditional Caribbean architecture, the gallery displays contemporary art and photography as well as furniture, antiques and collectibles. It also houses several artist studios for emerging Barbadian artists, which are open to the public during daytime gallery hours.

Sculpture in front of the

Sculpture at the Lancaster Great House

Right opposite The Old Pharmacy Gallery, the Star Bar & Sculpture Terrace act as an après-plage wine bar under the stars. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm till 9.30pm, it’s a great place for a beach-side drink and snacks surrounded by art.

Starting in 2010, a season of classic movies will be featured here every Tuesday night at 7pm. The tentative schedule includes screenings of Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and The Sound of Music. For an up-to-date schedule and to reserve your seat, email starbar@sunbeach.net.

Among the many things I loved about my five-day visit to Barbados, the Gallery at Lancaster Great House stands as one of the highlights. This pink-colored colonial home has been beautifully restored and now offers a prime chance to enjoy a dose of local art in a spectacular environment. Admission is free and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am till 4pm.

When I visited back in the spring, the pretty garden was dotted with stunning sculptures made of coral stone and plaster by the resident artist Jerome Radigois from Martinique. I was very touched by the solitude of each figure, even those huddled in pairs and trios. Now some of these sculptures have been moved to the Sculpture Terrace opposite the Old Pharmacy Gallery so you can catch them there.

Barbados on a budget

If you’re heading to Barbados on a budget, I’d recommend basing yourself on the rugged, less developed and more affordable east coast of the island. I loved the adorable fishing village of Bathsheba in this region, which is known as the island’s surfers’ mecca.

Barbados' Bathsheba region - a surfer mecca

The village of Bathsheba – a surfer mecca

Here, the place to stay if you’re looking for something alternative and affordable is the cozy Sea-U Guest House Hotel. If you have more cash to splash, check into The Atlantis, the just unveiled 10-room boutique property by the owners of the Little Good Harbour Hotel & the adjacent Fish Pot restaurant on the fashionable west coast of the island (where I had my first ever barracuda and thought it delicious).

TVI Express – Game Changer or Bogus Deal?

For anyone trying to build a team in an MLM company, I am sure you flinch when someone in your downline calls to about the latest hot deal.

Top reps in this industry don't usually get distracted, once they are committed to a deal, you usually can't get their attention unless a real game changer enters the marketplace.

The issue here is could TVI Express be one of those “Game Changers”?

Recently I got a call from Greg, a new rep for TVI who had been with them for about 2 1/2 months and he wanted my help in generating leads. We reviewed the deal at some length and then I asked him how it was going for him so far.

That's when he dropped the bomb!

He told me that in just the last 2 months he had made a huge amount of money. Now after spending many years in MLM you kind of get a little matter of fact when you hear about the big dollars, but to do it in such a short period of time was incredible.

I decided to do an in depth review of the company to see what all the excitement was all about.

TVI Express is fundamentally a travel club that launched their enterprise in January of 2009 in Asia.

Travel deals are not new in MLM, many have gone this road before and some have done enormously well using travel as a product, people love it.

My review found some remarkable things about the TVI business.

Product
The TVI product is pretty easy to appreciate, its a travel voucher good for a free resort hotel stay for a week for 2 people. The base price on this from the company is $250 US and this is in fact what you get when you sign up to be a distributor for you $250 membership. (it may in point of fact cost you $275 or $300 but more on that in the full review)

Once you are a rep you also have access to travel discounts via their channel partners on everything from Rental Cars to Ship Cruises though your online office.

No Autoship
One of the appealing things to many people is that once you have paid your distributor fee there are no required monthly purchases to stay active. Getting rid of the autoship and monthly fee obligation may pose a challenge for future growth but distributors love it.

Company
Since starting in Asia they have grown to over 150 countries. Their original home office was in the UK and according to their website they are backed by a major UK financial group.

Ground Floor
They are pretty much in the first year of business which qualifies them as ground floor but they are moving very swiftly. It seems they grew to almost 200,000+ distributors in Asia before they even hit the US and they are now growing like no tomorrow here.

Compensation
This is what is generating all the excitement. Most MLM residual plans give you a tiny piece of everything but it can take time to build. TVI uses an aggressive matrix program that is quite out of the ordinary.

This comp plan is very different, for example there are no payments made on the monthly activity of your downline. The money that would go to pay all those small commissions is held and then generated when you hit a threshold point.

The threshold points signify some good pocket change, $500 for one, $10,000 for the next.

Here is what happens. The Traveler Board is the lower matrix you have to go through first and then the Express Board is the upper matrix you go through next. They each have 4 levels and the idea is to move from the bottom level which has 8 positions up to the next level of 4 and so on until after 3 moves you should be at the top position.

Once you get to the top of the first matrix, the Traveler Board, you get paid a bonus of $500 and then move to the Express Board.

The procedure is then repeated in the upper matrix until a distributor graduates from the top position receiving a $10,000 commission and $5000 in travel benefits.

The position then re enters the lower level of the top matrix and can rotate through it again and again each time earning $15,000 in total compensation.

The big bucks are made by having more than one position, which the company allows.

There are also residual payments made to those who have graduated from the top matrix and they can range anywhere from 5% to 10%.

There are many differences in building strategies depending on which organization you join and what they teach. Keep in mind you will improve you odds in a very active group that teaches multiple positions.

There is more detail on compensation in my full review

Commentary

This is a very interesting business model. Look, the product is interesting, the market niche is proven, but in the end its all about the money. Opportunities that reward more distributors with more money generate more excitement and grow quicker. This deal provides that.

There is lots of excitement about TVI, some love it and others don't trust it. Kind of like prospecting for MLM. There is always a bit of a gamble in a new venture and the cautious thing to do is probably to wait and see, but of course then it will no longer be early stage. TVI Express has an actual product that has value and they pay their distributors.

Judging from past performance I think we will see some pretty dynamic growth moving forward

One bad attribute of a matrix comp plan is that people tend to oversell the idea of only sponsoring two and your are done.

Doing business that way is probably not going to get you where you want to go. Its true that all you need to do to be fully qualified is to sponsor 2 people but a successful business plan is never based on doing the minimums.

Notice the word “Marketing” in network marketing, to be successful with any Network Marketing company, you need to learn how to set up a marketing system so you can plan on bringing several new reps in each month. Its the same with TVI.

For more information on the company and comp plan see my full review.

Carribbean Cruises – 5 Tips to choose the best cruise lines | ArticlesBase.com

When thinking about vacation, many tend to list Carribbean cruises as one of the options. However, there are quite a number of Carribbean cruises lines to choose from. It would be time consuming to pick the very best that meet your need. The following tips can save your time.

1. Determine where you want to go. This will help you to choose from Eastern, Western or Southern Carribbean cruises. Each cruise line has its own itinerary. The Western Carribbean routes include Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Belize, Jamaica and Costa Maya, Mexico. The Eastern routes normally include San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Tortola and Labadee, and Haiti. Whereas the Southern routes may include St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Antiqua, Dominica, Barbados, Aruba, and Curacao. If you have specific locations that you must visit, then that cruise line should be the priority.

2. Check what kind of activities or excursions that the cruise line offers at each port. Are the activities more towards families, or for couples or singles? Those for families will have children facilities on board and excursion that all family member can participate, whereas adult only cruises normally offers more time for them to spend on their own. Thus, pick the one that meet the kind of vacation you are planning.

3. Check the dining preferences. Do you want a scheduled dining times or alternate dining options? If you care about your meal schedule, then this factor too can help you to pick the best cruise lines for you.

4. Gather someone else experience. It can be from families and friends or from other sources like printed materials or the internet. I bet there are so many shared experiences on the net, you just need to look them up. From all these experiences, you should be able to make up your mind.

5. Determine your budget. Some cruise lines are more expensive and luxurious than others. So pick the one that within your budget. Take into consideration extra money you will need like for entertainment, excursions, food, drinks, taxi fares if you stop at port-of-call and plan to visit around the place, or things you might purchase at the stops.

Cruising on the Carribbean could be your once in a lifetime experience. Therefore, it is essential to determine which Carribbean Cruises lines to go with. You can't go wrong by choosing Carribbean cruises, but your vacation is dull if you choose the wrong cruise line.

Off-Beat Holiday Destinations for 2010

They say half the fun of a holiday is in the planning, so in case you’re stuck for ideas and looking for your next grand adventure, consider these six destinations with an off-beat twist: a Mediterranean resort in Wales, a tropical beach in Germany, a nostalgic Baltic sea resort, a yurt in Sussex, the Von Trapp family in Vermont, or surreal concrete gardens in Mexico.

Off-Beat Holiday #1 – Port Meirion, Wales

The Italianate resort village of Port Meirion is magnificently located in Gwynedd, on the rocky coast of Wales surrounded by Snowdonia National Park. This extraordinary folly – largely built from reclaimed fragments of demolished buildings – was conceived and designed by Sir Clough Willams-Ellis. It’s a fanciful architectural bricolage in homage to the Italian Mediterranean (don’t scoff – the resort is said to have influenced the development of post-modern architecture).

The main piazza at Port Meirion

The main piazza at Port Meirion

Port Meirion offers everything you might hope for in a coastal Italian town – except, perhaps, the balmy weather. Beautiful landscaping and decorative outcrops set off the ornate buildings to perfection, with a series of walkways through the wilderness-garden setting. Guests can also venture further afield along the coast. There’s a range of accommodation from decadent hotels and quirky cottages to the medieval Castle Deudraeth. And yes, fans of the iconic BBC show “The Prisoner” will recognize this setting as The Village. Be seeing you.

Off-Beat Holiday #2 – Tropical Islands, Berlin

A tropical rain forest just 60km south of Berlin?? Yes!

Tropical Islands offers rain forest in a naturally maintained biotope and boasts Europe’s largest spa and sauna complex. It’s an unbelievable haven of lush tropics and beach-side entertainment. As the website says, “watch the palm trees sway in the gentle breeze, feel the sand between your toes on our tropical beach. At Tropical Islands, the dream of creating a tropical island in the heart of Europe has become reality.” Indeed.

Bali Lagoon at Tropical Islands

Bali Lagoon at Tropical Islands

Built in a former aircraft hanger, Tropical Islands is 360m long, 210m wide and 107m high. The Bali Lagoon features a grotto and waterfall, with romantic evening lighting for you to enjoy a tropical barbecue or dinner at the Borneo Cafe. You can even stay overnight and camp on the beach in a tent, or relax in the hot tub of your Cambodian or Balinese-style lodge before a morning swim in the waves. Return to the frozen streets of Berlin and hit the nightclubs and bars. It’s the best of both worlds, really. (Hot tip: Tropical Islands offers free entry on your actual birthday, so celebrate!)

Off-Beat Holiday #3 – Neringa, Lithuania

If you’re feeling nostalgic, or have a yen for the Baltic, head north to the jewel of Lithuania’s coast: the UNESCO World Heritage site of Neringa. It’s located on the peninsula of the Curonian Spit, nestled between the Baltic Sea and a quiet lagoon. It does get busy during summer, but don’t expect the nightclub scene, this is where you go for serious relaxation.

At Neringa you will be alone, but not lonely

There are no noisy highways, railway stations, or municipal transport like in other cities and towns. But there are dunes, forest, seasides and small fishing villages rolling in sand. The very charming tourist site promises a veritable oasis from the world: “I am your hope and your beacon, your longing, nostalgia and soul cry. I will be here for you when you need me, and will fold you in mists and love. I am your Nida…. forget your troubles, give yourself to the waves and wind and they will carry you to my shores… and the sun will always show up after the storm.”

Off-Beat Holiday #4 – Glamping in a Yurt

You may remember camping as an uncomfortable enterprise, walking for hours into the woods and trying to make yourself comfortable on hard ground laced with sharp rocks. Well, now there’s a glamour camping option, for those intrepid campers who yearn for a taste of the wilderness, yet still want to be able to sleep soundly in a soft bed.

Goglamping is the Rolls Royce of camping experiences: they arrange luxury camping holidays from yurts perched on a mountain in southern France; to geodesic-domed tents in Patagonia, Chile; to nomadic tents in the desert of Morocco. Or maybe you fancy a comfortable taste of the gypsy life? Well then, try the romantic caravans in Herefordshire, at the Wriggles Brook Gypsy B&B.

Off-Beat Holiday #5 – Von Trapp Family Lodge, Vermont

Experience a taste of Austrian mountain life in America, with a trip to the Trapp Family Lodge and ski resort, looking out over 2,400 acres of mountain views. Clearly when the Von Trapp family left Austria and first gazed on the sweeping mountain vistas of Stowe, Vermont, they knew immediately they had found their new home. Nowadays you can enjoy a range of activities including wine tasting, cross-country skiing, maple sugaring, mountain biking, yoga, arts and crafts….

Simply relax in the charming Austrian-style lodge while you contemplate the hills, or choose the ‘Meet the Von Trapp’ option for an insight into the lives and history of the family who inspired The Sound of Music (which is screened weekly in case you feel the need to revisit the original story).

Off-Beat Holiday #6 – Las Pozas, Mexico

admiring his sculptures. Don't mind the bath robe.

Edward James admiring his sculptures… in a bath robe

Las Pozas sculpture garden is a surrealist wonderland in the jungle of Mexico, near the town of Xilitla. This bizarre Xanadu is the work of art patron and eccentric millionaire, Edward James, who “abandoned the intellectual, social and artistic circles of London, Paris, New York and Hollywood for the jungles of Mexico.”

Legends say a vision – of a cloud of butterflies – inspired him to buy the property in the semi-tropical highlands of the Sierra Madre Mountains, 8 hours from Mexico City. James started the enterprise in 1945 with an orchid garden that was wiped out by a freak snowstorm. Bloodied but not bowed, he created concrete orchids and gardens over the next 20 years.

The sculptures include a bamboo palace, orchid-shaped cement totem poles, obelisks, pavilions, bridges going nowhere and a spiral stairway to the sky.

The guest house El Castillo is the former home of the owner/artist and offers grand bedrooms in a dramatic and whimsical mix of Mexican, English and Moorish architecture. Make sure to visit the Parrot Cave and spectacular waterfalls in the surrounding area.

Hot Wallpapers of Celebrity Models, Actors and Actresses – An Instant Inspiration! | ArticlesBase.com

Hot wallpapers of celebrity models, actors and actresses are an instant inspiration for me when I am buckled under the pressure of tight schedules. Being in to the consultancy profession, and with a growing list of quality clientele, I am always as busy as a bee. Inevitably, this leaves me often in an emotional vacuum or rather restless nervousness. Luckily for me, I am a fan to a few celebrities in the show business. These include a few film personalities and a string of models. I have habituated to keep wallpapers depicting one or other of these hot celebrities. Thus, whether before my computer, or making a call or just listening to a tune in my iphone, these celebrity images excite me, or rather inspire me and enable me to shed my boredom. In fact, if they are film personalities, their figures would invoke in me some unforgettable scenes from some classic renderings on the silver screen. Instantly I may tune on to some sweet melody from those films that I can pick from the stock that I keep with my device. It is a sort of instant inspiration and that is ready at hand.

Amongst hot wallpapers of Hollywood celebrities, the ones of Angelina Jolie is an instant source of inspiration for me. She is endowed with a rare radiance of matchless glory and the reminiscences of the scenes that she immortalized often leave me in moments of ebullient ecstasies of maddening joy. Angelina with her big juicy lips, bad ass attitude and sexy body makes her one of the most favorite celebrities for many and her hot wallpapers are ever chosen with much enthusiasm. Other Hollywood celebrities whose hot wallpapers preferred by many include Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez or J-Lo, Jessica Alba, Keira Knightley, Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson and Lindsay Lohan.Among men, the most preferred wallpapers of Hollywood celebrities include those of Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Matt Demon, orlando Bloom, George Clooney, etc.

Well, hot wallpapers of celebrity models, actors and actresses could be an instant inspiration for many during moody moments. As modern psychological findings reveal, the level of excellence in human endeavour could well be fluctuating depending on the psychic ambience in which the purported activity takes place. That is, when you are in psychological doldrums, the level of excellence in the quality of your work could be law. On the other hand, if you are excited, you mind might enfold uncharted realms of imagination and that in turn could churn out superb thought and work.

GeneWize Review ? A DNA nutrition and skincare breakthrough or just great marketing?

GeneWize Life Sciences is the direct marketing arm of GeneLink, Inc, a public biotech company based just outside of orlando, Florida. During the last 15 years GeneLink has done some really interesting DNA research and have numerous patents and patents pending on everything from DNA testing kits to which genes they actually test for a specific purpose.

On August 1, 2008 GeneLink launched GeneWize to a group of about 1,500 affiliates representing nearly 5,000 affiliates who joined during prelaunch.

So of course, everyone wants to knowdoes their product really work?

Can customized vitamins and skin care be available at an affordable price?

The answer is yes.

GeneWize has developed a genius manufacturing process that works a lot like the machine over at Home Depot for making custom paint for your house. Your personal ingredient list gets inputted, then it turns it into an algorithm, and the machine spits out a vitamin, mineral and enzyme combination made just for you. The process is just like that for skin care too.

If you think about it, this is really amazing.

Okay, so the product rockswhat about the money?

GeneWize uses the most used version of what I'll call the “new breed of compensation plans.” In essence, it's a binary with a check match. There are some other goodies in there too, but those are the main components.

What this means is that you build a binary, two-team organization. You are paid off the team that does less volume. However, with the check match, you will gain a matching bonus on the people who you personally enroll, regardless of where they fall in the binary. These matching bonuses are earned down 4 levels of personally sponsored affiliates.

At the top level, you can earn 40% of someone's check. If you help someone make $5,000/mo, you will earn a $2,000 bonusand that's just for that one affiliate.

That is the real power of these binary check matches. You won't get rich on your team bonus, but with the check match you can make a large amount of money over time.

In the end, every company only pays out so much. Where the company pays it is the question. With the way they've set up their comp plan, GeneWize has evidently decided to pay on the middle and top end. As a result, the plan better serves those that produce more.

GeneWize is a solid company; there is no doubt about that. They have a solid compensation plan; that's easy to see. If you take some time to research on your own, you'll also find they have revolutionary products also.

So what's next?

How are you going to get your business/product out there?

Trade shows? Networking events? Family? Friends?

All of these methods have potential, but what if you gained the skills of a pro?

What if you learned how to position yourself and your company so that you only talk to people who are already interested?

Every business can benefit from an effective marketing strategy. It's what makes a business work. Making a list of the top 200 people may do it for some, but definitely not all.

If you really want to create a long-lasting, successful, profitable business with GeneWize, you definitely need to learn some basic marketing skills that will separate you from the masses.

Keith O'Brien is a master of human potential and social media strategist. If you found this authentic-networker.com/?page_id=482 helpful, Keith can teach you how to market your www.sevenfiguremastermindteam.com/keithobrien/articles/genewize-review-a-breakthrough-in-dna-nutrition–skincare-or-just-great-marketing-hype-6519/?articlePreview business like a master marketer.
